Fighting and Winning in the Michigan Supreme Court

This case is an example of how the tenacious attorneys of Zamler, Shiffman & Karfis fight for justice. For nearly 5 years, we fought this case through the Court of Appeals and up to the Supreme Court of Michigan. On July 31, 2021, justice was served, and we earned a great win for our client.

In May of 2015, our client sustained serious injuries in a zip line accident. The impact with the ground at the end of the zip line ride was so great that it resulted in multiple surgical injuries to our client’s back and knees injuries which have had a permanent impact on her quality of life.

This legal fight alleging negligence against the zip line-owner began in November of 2015. It continued through the Court of Appeals, which ruled for the Defendant on all issues. The resolve of our firm and our client never weakened as we fought the case up to the Supreme Court of Michigan.

On July 30, 2021, after hearing our arguments and evidence, the Supreme Court of Michigan issued a sweeping, near-unanimous decision that completely overturned the Court of Appeals.

Our firm’s efforts will have a lasting effect on negligence law in the State of Michigan. Most importantly, our client was given the justice she deserves and the opportunity to continue her fight as the case moves toward a trial.
